Description

Our Horse Herb Black Coat supports a healthy mane, tail & coat making it useful for helping to keep black/dark coats healthy and shiny. It contains paprika that is safe for horses and is known to help prevent fading. Please note: Paprika is also a natural source of capsaicin, which can be used for pain relief and/or an irritant in certain volumes. If your show venue is testing, it’s best to avoid this variation. You can use our Horse Herb Colorful Coat without paprika.

We have a sample taste test size to see if your horse likes the herbs and a 60 day supply for approx. 1000 lb. horse. We find that most horses really like the herb blend and eat it readily. Topdressing your horses’ grain is an easy way to feed the herbs. If you do not feed grain, your horse will likely eat the herbs just plain.

Directions: Give ½ cup herb blend once a day per 1000 pound horse. Can be fed year-round for hair and coat health. Best if started at least 6-8 weeks prior to new summer coat growth for the best outcome. Feed throughout the summer help keep your horse dark and to promote dapples and shine.

Ingredient Blend: Flaxseed, Paprika, Kelp, Dandelion Leaf, Rosehips, Nettle, Oat Straw, Black Oil Sunflower Seeds.

Horses are herbivores so it is natural for them to seek out and eat herbs that their body may need.  Most of our horses do not live in an environment where these natural herbs are available, so we blended 8 herbs together to offer a palatable supplement to support a healthy mane, tail & coat making it useful for helping to keep black/dark coats healthy and shiny. Contains paprika known to help prevent fading.

Flaxseed: Flaxseed is high in Omega-3’s and is a rich source of healthy fat, antioxidants, and fiber. The seeds contain protein, lignans, and essential fatty acids. In research environments, adding fat to a horse’s diet has shown to improve skin, hair coat, and body condition and reduce excitability.

Paprika:  Paprika is rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It is a naturally occurring source of copper.  Copper is an essential trace mineral that plays a vital role in many processes within your horse’s body. Coat color is determined by the presence and proportion of melanin pigments. As it turns out, the enzyme responsible for melanin production—tyrosinase—is copper-dependent.

Kelp: The kelp we use is bioavailable and readily utilized and contains trace minerals, micronutrients, and amino acids as well as many natural vitamins. Kelp assists in boosting the immune system, balance hormones and promotes gastrointestinal health. It is a natural source of iodine that helps thyroid and metabolic function and promotes a shiny coat, supple skin, promotes better reproductive performance, purges heavy metals, and assists in more efficient feed utilization.

Dandelion Leaf: Dandelion Leaf is high in vitamins A, B, C, and D, and rich in potassium, sodium, calcium and other minerals, dandelion functions as a tonic by stimulating liver function, bile production, and kidney function. It helps the body clear itself of toxins and is believed to purify the blood. It’s a strong botanical ally when used in rehabilitation or conditioning mixes, especially for horses that undergo the stress of competition. The Dandelion leaves are known as a natural electrolyte and aids in flushing the system of toxins that may contribute to inflammation which makes it ideal for allergies.

Rose Hips: Rose hips are the seedpods or fruit of the rose. We don’t often see them anymore, because we tend to prune faded rose blossoms. Rose hips are one of the richest sources of vitamin C and also contain vitamin A, thiamine, niacin, riboflavin, and vitamin K. They can help any horse fight off infections and boost his immune health. Due to the presence of biotin, rosehips promote and maintain the growth of healthy hooves, and improved hair coat, mane, and tail.

Nettle: When cut and dried, nettle loses its sting and becomes a valuable herb and is one of nature’s richest sources of iron, which can often be a mineral lacking in an equine diet.  Nettles also contain histamine, serotonin, potassium, silica, vitamins A and C, and a whole host of other minerals.  It’s one of the most widely useful plants that help strengthen and support the whole body.  Nettles support the immune, respiratory, urinary and reproductive systems, and can help the body fight allergic responses.  Additionally, nettles will strengthen hoof and coat health-promoting dapples in the horse’s hair coat.

Oat Straw: Oat straw comes from green oats, also known as Avena sativa. The entire plant is rich in minerals and trace nutrients helping to promote strong bones and assist with healthy skin.

Black Oil Sunflower Seeds: Black Oil Sunflower seeds are highly nutritious, offering protein, vitamins, and minerals and are especially high in magnesium and Omega-6 which promotes a shiny healthy hair coat.

I LOVE this product!! First of all, my horse is 19 years old and white. I wondered if the Black Coat Herb supplement might bring back any of his dapples. It did not. But, his sire was a dark bay, and his dam was a grey. What I see with using this supplement is more of the flee-bitten dark brown color coming through his white coat. The quality and texture of his coat is beautiful this year (and much different than previous years where I was feeding flax seed). I started using it in October or November of 2020, so several months before the shedding of his winter coat. The vet and my farrier have both commented on how nice and really healthy he looks. My compliments to Ranch Life Naturals on two really superb products that I love using on my horse! (The other is the horse herb allergy blend.)
